Before & after – bedroom

I’ve been in my new house for 3 months now, and after a lot of painting I finally have one room that I feel I can say is finished! My bedroom is everything I wanted it to be, so I wanted to share a before and after – and here it is…

Before

After

When I moved in, almost the whole house was carpeted in the lovely brown in the pictures above, and every single wall was a sheeny creamer-than-magnolia. The very first thing I did (literally, I was in Homebase within 30 mins of getting the keys) was to start covering the bedroom walls in a lovely fresh white, which made a real immediate difference.

The bed is one of my more extravagant purchases (I did get a good discount though!) – it’s the kingsize Square Bed from Designers Guild in Celadon linen. The duvet cover and pillowcases are Grazie from La Redoute, and the stripy cushion fabric I bought in Marrakech. Under the bed I have lots of super useful boxes also from La Redoute (I can’t find the exact ones on the website now) – these have shoes, out of season clothes and all my makeup and skincare hidden away in and are probably the main reason that this room is tidy.

My bedside tables are, again, from La Redoute (they really do have some great stuff at reasonable prices – and they so often have 20/30% off everything plus great cashback) – I love that they’re part table & part magazine rack, so the magazines I haven’t yet read have somewhere other than a pile in the corner to live. The lamp is a really old one from Dunelm, the mirrored tray and coasters are from Zara Home (again, quite old), and the framed photo of Central Park was (also some years ago!) from a stall at Manchester Christmas Markets.

The wardrobe was a super bargain – £239 inc delivery (but looks like it’s gone up by £10 now!) from Hang and Snooze – it has a hanging rail all the way along, full length mirror on the first door and two really good size drawers. The gold chairs either side of the window were from Treasures Antiques in Newmarket, and the little mirror on the windowsill was one of many finds from Essaouira. Earlier in the year I’d been to the Designers Guild sample sale and the curtain fabric was from there – I can’t stress how worth it it is to make a trip to one of the sample sales if you have a lot to decorate and a Pinterest board full of things you can’t afford – I paid £120 for this, velvet for the spare bedroom curtains and another ready made silk curtain, and worked out that full price they would have come to around £800.

The fireplace was given a fresh coat of Hammerite to bring it back to life (courtesy of my mum, who also worked her magic on the curtains and the wallpaper), and the mirror above it was another find from Treasures. I’m not sure if I was more excited about the wallpaper or the lightshade – both had been features of my imaginary new bedroom since I first started house hunting and I was so pleased that they worked! The wallpaper is Wilderness from Ferm Living, and I bought it from Scandinavian Design Center. And finally, the lightshade is the Eos from Vita (this one is Medium) – available all over but I got mine from Graham and Green.

So, one room down, and hopefully not too far to go before the rest of the house matches it – I’ll keep you updated!
